To mark the 200th anniversary of Smetana’s birth, Alena Hron will open this year’s Festival Krumlov on 12 July, conducting a unique staging of Smetana’s Ma vlast with the Janáček Philharmonic, joined on stage by ballet ensemble Les Ballets Bubeníček. The open-air concert on the banks of the Vltava River is another milestone in the conductor’s collaboration with the Janáček Philharmonic, who recently released an album of Vítězslava Kaprálová’s completed orchestral works, also conducted by Alena Hron, to critical acclaim. The next opportunity to see Alena Hron conduct will be on 17 August at the Berlin Konzerthaus as part of the Young Euro Classic Festival.
