Alena Hron Opens the 2026/27 Season with Gulbenkian Orchestra Debut

Alena Hron makes her debut with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Choir on Saturday, 5 September, conducting their opening concert of the 2026/27 season at Parque Vale do Silêncio in Lisbon, Portugal.

Part of Lisbon’s annual Festas na Rua, the free-entry concert brings together a vibrant programme spanning the orchestral and operatic repertoire. From the rhythmic vitality of Gershwin’s Cuban Overture and Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance to the lyricism of Florence Price and Augusta Holmès, the programme moves between contrasting musical worlds. Operatic highlights by Puccini, Bizet and Verdi bring dramatic intensity, while de Falla’s El sombrero de tres picos and Bizet’s Carmen add Spanish colour and energy.

The concert will also be broadcast live on RTP2 – Rádio e Televisão de Portugal.

Hron’s Gulbenkian debut comes as part of an expanding international season, including further debuts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liège Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest and Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra. In Czechia, she returns to the Prague Symphony Orchestra, where she will lead two different programmes during the 2026/27 season.

The 2025/26 season saw Hron make her debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in a series of special concerts, alongside first appearances with Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Gewandhaus, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra in Japan.
