Conductor Alena Hron makes two highly anticipated German debuts in May.
On 10 May, she leads MDR-Sinfonieorchester at Leipzig Gewandhaus in an all-Czech programme featuring Novák’s “V Tatrach” (In the Tatras) Symphonic Poem op. 26; Janáček’s Suite for orchestra from “Prihody lisky bystrousky” (The Cunning Little Vixen) and three selections from Smetana’s beloved series of symphonic poems, Má vlast: “From Bohemia’s Grove and Meadow,” “Šárka” and “The Vltava”.
On 31 May she takes to the podium of the Tonhalle Düsseldorf to conduct both the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra and Vision String Quartet, with cabaret star and presenter Florian Schroeder as narrator. The uplifting concert includes Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance in C major op. 46/1 and 7, Spohr’s Quartet Concerto op. Op. 131 for two violins, viola, violoncello and orchestra (1st movement) and Eichberg’s Endorphin for string quartet and string orchestra.
Alena Hron has had a remarkable impact on the Czech music scene and beyond. She has made history as the first woman to serve as Chief Conductor in the Czech Republic, currently in her second season leading the South Czech Philharmonic (Jihočeská filharmonie). She is also the recipient of the prestigious 2024/26 TAKI ALSOP Fellowship, which offers intensive mentorship and coaching from Marin Alsop. She made her US debut in the summer of 2024, conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival alongside Alsop.
In addition to these concerts, Alena’s 2025/26 highlights include her debuts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, Polish National Radio Symphony in Katowice, and Kyoto Symphony Orchestra in Japan. At home she returns to the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others.
